OCEAN VIEW, Del. - - Even with the blistering cold and gusting winds, the Wilmington University golf team sits in first place after the first round of their 2017 spring debut, shooting a 312 at the Goldey-Beacom Spring Invite at Bear Trap Dunes on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats entered two teams into their first tournament of the spring season, with the top team shooting a 312 to sit in first place by six strokes with a 312, and the second team sitting in fourth place with a 325.

Senior Freddy Braun leads all Wildcats and is second in the tournament with a 75 on Saturday. He only trails Goldey-Beacom's Garrett Brown who shot a 72 in the opening round.

Troy Miller, Miguel Siercke, and Sam Clark all shot 79's to round out the Wildcats scoring on the first place team, all sitting in a tie for sixth place. Ryan Rucinski closes out that team with an 83, sitting in a tie for 22nd overall. The Wildcats are six stroke ahead of the host Lightning who shot a 318.

The other Wildcats team shot a 325, sitting in fourth place directly behind Dominican's 322.

Zach Moore led that Wildcats' team with an 80 for a tie in 11th place followed by Matthew Kettleson's 16th place finish with an 81. Braden McKay and Jack Dixon sit in a tie for 17th overall with an 82 while Joey Russo rounds out the Wildcats with an 83, good enough for a tie in 22nd.
