NEWARK, Del. - - Three goals in the second half allowed the Wilmington University women's soccer team to snap a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday at the WU Athletics Complex.

Despite being outshot, 19-10, in the game, the Wildcats were able to find the back of the net three times in the second half, getting two goals from Jordan Siok and a final goal from Evelyn Payne.

After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats finally broke through in the 54th minute. Off a Wilmington goalkick, Evelyn Payne raced down the right side and got all the way to the end line. She turned in and played it back to the center of the goal, finishing Jordan Siok for the tap in goal in the 54th minute.

Jordan Siok sprung loose again, this time down the left side in the 63rd minute. Alyssa Ruggeri played Siok over the top and the forward was able to get a touch on it around the goalkeeper, tapping it in for her second of the day and seventh of the year for the 2-0 lead.

St. Thomas Aquinas came right back and cut the deficit in half, scoring 33 seconds later to make it 2-1.

But the Wildcats had an answer five minutes later, this time having Evelyn Payne finish off a pass. Payne played Ruggeri into the right corner and settled in the box from 12-yard outs. Ruggeri found her and Payne blasted a ball over the outstretched hands of the keeper for the 3-1 lead in the 68th minute.

Evelyn Payne finished with a goal and an assist while Alyssa Ruggeri had two assists in the contest. Arianna Myers made five stops in the first half before Mio Nakajima made three saves in 35 minutes of the second half.

The Wildcats return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play for the rest of the season, starting with Dominican on Saturday. The home game will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
