MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - - The Wilmington University golf team posted a 302 in the second round to move up to 12th place after the first day of The Battle at the Shores Tournament at the Normandy Shores Golf Club hosted by Barry University.
The Wildcats posted a two-round score of 307-302 for a day one score of 609 (+41). The team is in 12th place out of 16 teams with one round to play on Tuesday.
Senior Sam Clark's second round 71 (E) led all Wilmington scorers on Monday, as he finished with a 79-71 for a two-round score of 150 (+8). Clark moved up 31 spots with his second round score and now sits in a tie for 39th overall with one round to play.
Junior Zac Moore had the best day for the Wildcats, shooting a 76-73 for a 149 (+7) following Monday's two rounds. He is in a tie for 32nd overall heading into the final round on Tuesday.
Senior Miguel Siercke led the Wildcats with a 75 in the first round, but backed that up with a 78 in the second round for a 153 (+11). He is in a tie for 52nd overall after two rounds.
Sophomore Ryan Rucinski rounded out the Wildcats scoring on Monday, shooting a 77-80 for a 157 (+15). He is in a tie for 66th overall.
Freshman Braden McKay was the final Wildcat in action on Monday, sitting in a tie for 82nd overall after shooting a 79-85 for a 164 (+22) in the first two rounds.
Host and nationally third ranked Barry leads the tournament after shooting a 282-287 for a 589 (+1). No. 4 Nova Southeastern sits in second after shooting a 296-277 for a 573 (+5) while Eastern Florida State rounds out the top three with a 293-286 for a 579 (+11).
Nova Southeastern's Juan Jose Guerra leads the tournament with a tournament and course record 60 in the second round, finishing with a 73-60 for a 133 (-9) for the first day. Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan sits in second with a 67-69 for a 136 (-6) while Eastern Florida State's Mathieu Echlard and Barry's Niclas Weiland are tied for third with a 140 (-2).
