Wildcats Shoot 311 in First Round of NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional

VICTOR, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot a 311 in the opening round of the 2022 NCAC Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament on Thursday, hosted by Le Moyne College at the Ravenwood Golf Club.

Led by Ali Ladak's 73 (+1), the Wildcats shot a 311 (+23) and sit in 19th place after the first of three rounds in the postseason tournament. Ladak is sitting in a tie for 19th after the first out, out of 108 golfers.

Ali Ladak (Richmond, B.C./Hugh Boyd Secondary) did most of his damage on the par five holes, finishing second in the round at two-under par on the four par-five holes. He was also tied for sixth by finishing one-under par on the par-four holes and tied for 16th overall with 12 pars. The par-three holes tripped up Ladak, as he bogeyed the par three fourth and eighth before sinking birdie on the par-five ninth to make the turn at one over par. The back nine started with six straight pars before a birdie at the par-four 16th brought him to even par. But a double bogey on the par-three 17th set him back again but Ladak rallied with a birdie on the par-five 18th to finish his round strong with a 73 (+1).

Tyler Cleaves (Kaukauna, Wisc./Kaukauna) finished tied for second in par three scoring, shooting even par on the four par threes. But Cleaves had a hard time bounced back from his opening three holes which saw him go four-over par. A birdie on the par-four seventh brought him to three-over but he bogeyed the par-five ninth to make the turn four over par. He birdied the par-three 14th to get to five over par, but closed his round with three pars and bogey to finish 78 (+6) and in a tie for 75th place.

Matthew Pulgini (Wilmington, Del./Appoquinimink) is in a tie for 89th overall after shooting an 80 (+8) on Thursday. He birdied the par-four fifth to get back to one-over par but back-to-back bogeys on seven and eight pushed him back to three-over at the turn. Five straight bogeys on the back put Pulgini at 80 (+8) on the afternoon.

Jan Lekes (Moravany, Czech Republic/Videnska) is tied with Pulgini in 89th overall with an identical 80 (+8). Lekes sank a birdie putt on the par-four third hole and made the turn at one-over par. Lekes went four-over par on the final three holes of his round however, shooting his 80 (+8).

Pablo Quintero (Bogota, Colombia/West River Academy) is in a tie for 97th overall after a first round 81 (+9). He birdied the par-four seventh but was hampered by a triple bogey on the par-three 17th down the stretch to close out his scoring.

St. Thomas Aquinas leads after the first round, shooting a 286 (-2) on Thursday. Charleston is second overall with a 292 (+4) while Post is third with a 293 (+5). Post's Jace Carlisle leads the field of 108 with a 69 (-3).

The Wildcats' second round will begin at 10:50 a.m. on Friday morning.
