LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - An 11-point difference in the third quarter allowed Georgian Court to pull away, taking the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division battle, 78-52, from the Wilmington university women's basketball team on Wednesday night inside the Wellness Center.
The Lions (5-18, 5-6 CACC) scored the final four points of the second quarter and scored the opening five points of the third quarter to turn the game around. The Wildcats (0-21, 0-10 CACC) led, 27-26, with 5:04 to play in the second quarter before the Lions went on their run and never looked back.
Mya Nisbet opened the game with a three-pointer for the Wildcats as the teams went back and forth throughout the first quarter. Aniyah Bond had an offensive rebound and putback to tie the game, 13-13, and Emma Brown drove to the basket with the clock winding down, scoring the layup to bring the Wildcats to within 19-17 at the end of the quarter.
Aniyah Bond hit a three-pointer to tie the game, 22-22, early in the second quarter and then TyKeisha Hill put in a bucket and Mya Nisbet hit a three-pointer, giving the Wildcats a 27-26 lead with 5:04 on the clock before the half.
But the Lions answered with a three-pointer of their own, starting a 9-0 run to grab an eight-point lead, 35-27. Armani Bell-Jackson ended the run with a three-pointer for the Wildcats, and then she hit another triple to bring the Wildcats to with 37-33 with 52 seconds left. The Lions ended the quarter with the final four points, taking a 41-33 lead into the half.
Georgian Court came out of the locker room and hit a two-pointer and a three-pointer, extending the lead out to 46-33 with the 9-0 run. The Georgian Court lead grew to 18 points with another 5-0 run as the home team took a 62-43 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Lions won the third quarter, 21-10, to pull away from the Wildcats.
The Lions' lead grew to as large as 27 in the fourth quarter, winning the fourth, 16-9, to win the game, 78-52.
Aniyah Bond secured a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats. TyKeisha Hill scored 11 points to go with eight rebounds while Armani Bell-Jackson came off the bench and scored 10 points. Jasmine McDuffie finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.
The Wildcats are off this weekend and return to action next Tuesday night in Philadelphia. They travel to Jefferson to take on the Rams starting at 6:00 p.m.
