ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - - The Wilmington University golf team posted a pair of rounds under 300 to start the Jay Jennison Cup on Monday, playing at the famed Slammer and Squire Course at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida.
The Wildcats posted rounds of 293 and 295 for a 588 (+12) with one round left to play. The Wildcats sit in 10th place after the first two rounds.
Palm Beach Atlantic leads the field of 13 with a 557 (-19) while Lenoi-Rhyne is second overall with a 561 (-15). Lynn shot a 468 (-8) on Monday while Embry-Riddle shot a 569 (-7) to round out the teams shooting under par in the first two rounds.
Junior newcomer Sacha Brown led the Wildcats on Monday and sits in a tie for 27th overall, shooting rounds of 74-72 for a 146 (+2). His day was highlighted by five birdies, three of which came in the second round. He birdied the par five eighth and 11th holes, and then the par three 13th in the second go-around, getting as low as two-under par. He shot even par in the second round.
Tyler Cleaves and Matt Pulgini are tied in 32nd after the first two rounds, scoring identical 147's to sit at three-over par. Cleaves shot a 73-74 to get to his 147 while Pulgini shot a 71 (-1) in the first round before following it up with a 76 to get to his 147. Cleaves had three birdies in his opening round, making the turn at three-under par. Pulgini also had three birdies in the first round, with his final birdie coming on the par five 16th to get back to one-under.
Jan Lekes rebounded nicely with a 73 (+1) in his second round, totaling a 151 (+7) to sit in a tie for 54th overall after two rounds. He finished his first round 78 on a high note, shooting back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18, kick starting his second round. In the second round, he birdied holes two, three, and four, to get to three-under par. He also birdied the par four 12th to have the most birdies in a round for a Wildcat on Monday, with four.
Pablo Quintero rounded out the Wildcats' team score on Monday, shooting rounds of 75-79 for a 154 (+10). He is in 64th overall after two rounds on the course. Quintero had three birdies in the first round, including back-to-back on hole nine and 10.
Playing as an individual, Ryan Heeman shot rounds of 77-83 for a 160 (+16). He started the day with back-to-back birdies on holes two and three and is now in 70th overall.
The third round is set for Tuesday morning on the Slammer and Squire course.
