TOWNSEND, Mass. - - The Wilmington University golf team kicked off the 2024-25 season in a big way, winning the Franklin Pierce Fall Invite on Tuesday with a two-day score of 295-294 for a 589 (+29) at the Northern Spy Golf Club.
The Wildcats were a stroke behind the leaders in third place after the opening round on Monday and then jumped the leaderboard with a 294 on Tuesday.
A mix of returners and newcomers led the Wildcats, as senior Sacha Brown and freshman Josh Freeman paced the squad with identical two-day scores of 145 (+5) and in a tie for sixth overall. Senior Pablo Quintero shot a 71 on Tuesday to finish with a 149 (+9) for a tie for 17th overall. Freshman Noah Wallace posted a 153 (+13) in his first collegiate event for a tie for 25th overall. Ryan Heenan added a 158 (+18) to round out the Wildcats in a tie for 38th overall.
Sacha Brown had a team low 70 (E) on Monday with three bridies and three bogey and then posted a 75 (+5) on Tuesday with two more birdies. Josh Freeman shot a 72 (+2) on Monday with three birdies and then followed it up with a 73 (+3) on Tuesday, battling back with four birdies.
Pablo Quintero had the best round on Tuesday with a 71 (+1), finishing with four birdies after responding from a 78 (+8) on Monday. Noah Wallace shot a 78 (+8) on Monday and a 75 (+5) on Tuesday, posting 21 pars in the two rounds. Ryan Heenan shot a 75 (+5) on Monday with three birdies and posted an 83 (+13) on Tuesday.
Adelphi's Mitchell Archer earned medalist honors for the tournament with a 71-69 for a 140 (E), winning by two strokes. Assumption and Dominican finished in second with identical scores of 591 (+31).
It is the first tournament victory for the Wildcats since they tied for first and won on a tie-breaker in the 2021 CACC Championship.
The Wildcats head to the Sunshine State for the rest of September, starting with The Griffin Invitational on Monday, September 16, at the Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, hosted by Saint Leo.
