Men’s Lacrosse Clinches First CACC Regular Season Title with 18-7 Win at Post

WATERBURY, Conn. - - For the first time in program history, the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team has captured the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season Championship, defeating Post, 18-7, on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

The Wildcats finish the regular season with a 10-3 record and go undefeated in CACC play with a 6-0 record. They will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament and will face No. 4 seed Dominican in the Semifinal on Thursday, April 28 at 12:00 p.m.

Wilmington has made the CACC Tournament every year since beginning its program in 2018. They make the semifinals in 2018 and 2019 before advancing to the CACC Tournament Championship last year.

On Saturday, the Wildcats used a four-goal stretch at the end of the second quarter to take a 10-5 lead into the halftime break. They then scored six straight goals spanning the third and fourth quarters to take a 16-6 lead with 9:46 to play to close out the Eagles.

Miles Crouse and Jimmy Cava started the scoring on Saturday with back-to-back goals for the Wildcats. After post scored their first goal, Giovanni Marino and Jake Copio scored back-to-back goals to lead 4-1. The Wildcats led, 5-2, after the first quarter.

TJ Caton scored the first goal of the second quarter but then Post scored three straight, including two on the man-advantage, to get within 6-5 with 10:55 left in the half. But then Giovanni Marino scored back-to-back goals to spark a 4-0 run to end the quarter and head into the break leading 10-5.

Post scored the first goal of the third quarter but then Jake Copio scored back-to-back goals, the second on the man-advantage, and then Logan Stinson scored his first two goals of the game to give the Wildcats a 14-6 lead after three quarters.

Miles Crouse and Giovanni Marino scored the first two goals of the fourth to make it six straight overall for the Wildcats. Logan Stinson and Miles Crouse capped the scoring with the final two goals of the game, giving the Wildcats a 18-7 lead.

Jake Copio led all point getters with eight, scoring four goals while adding four assists. Logan Stinson finished with three goals and two assists while Giovanni Marino scored four times. Miles Crouse ended with three goals and an assist while Jacob Herman dished out four assists in the win.

Tucker Plasse with 13-for-16 on face-offs while Jack Bobel spelled him and went 7-for-12. Jason Roland made 14 saves in the win.

Chestnut Hill will be the No. 2 seed in the CACC Tournament and will play No. 3 Georgian Court in the other CACC Tournament Semifinal on Thursday, hosted by Georgian Court in Lakewood, New Jersey.
