Men’s Soccer Stars Elton Joe and Tommy Quaranta Named Daktronics All-East Region

NEWARK, Del. - - A pair of Wilmington University men's soccer player have been named 2013 Daktronics Division II All-East Region, as Elton Joe was voted to the First Team and Tommy Quaranta was voted to the Second Team, as voted by the region's Sports Information Directors.

The duo led the Wildcats to the programs' first NCAA Tournament victory and the second most wins in a season, finishing 13-6-2 overall. The team also rose to as high as 13th in the NSCAA Division II National Poll, and second in the NSCAA East Region Poll after starting the season 6-1 overall.

Joe (Baltimore, Md.) led the team with 15 goals and seven assists, while finishing second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with 37 points. He tallied at least one point in each of the seven games of the year, including five points at Concordia with two goals and an assist. He also scored a pair of goals at Holy Family, against West Chester, and against Concordia in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinals.

The First Team All-CACC selection recorded a point in 11 of the 15 games he appeared in, scoring game-winning goals at Franklin Pierce, Holy Family, Concordia, and against Concordia in the CACC Quarterfinals. Joe also led the CACC with 85 shots and 44 shots on goal. Joe was also named to the CACC All-Tournament Team and was the CACC Player of the Week on September 23.

Quaranta (Baltimore, Md.) had a career season as a senior, complementing Joe on the offensive side of the formation for the Wildcats. Quaranta scored nine goals and added seven assists to finish sixth in the CACC with 25 points. His seven assists were third in the CACC while his nine goals were sixth best in the conference. He was named Second Team All-CACC and to the CACC All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

The senior recorded first half hat trick against Millersville on September 17, leading the team to a 3-2 victory. It was the team's first hat trick since the 2009 season. Quaranta also scored a goal and added an assist in two matches this year, first at Franklin Pierce and against Concordia in the CACC Quarterfinal. He also scored four game-winning goals, scoring at Bridgeport, against Millersville, against Caldwell, and at Georgian Court.

Being voted to the First Team automatically nominates Joe to the Daktronics Division II All-American Team, which will be voted on and released the first week of December.

The East Region's Player of the Year was given to LIU Post's Eivind Austboe after narrowly beating Southern New Hampshire's Pierre Omanga by one vote. Austboe was third in the nation with 58 points, scoring 24 goals and 10 assists on the year. He was also named the 2013 East Coach Conference Offensive Player of the Year earlier in the month.
