WATERBURY, Conn. - - A first half goal was all nationally ranked No. 19 Post needed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener as the Wilmington University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on Saturday at LaMoy Field.
The Wildcats (1-2-2, 0-1-0 CACC) led in every category in the box score except the final score, as the Eagles (2-1-2, 1-0-0 CACC) scored on their only shot on goal in the contest.
The Eagles' lone shot on goal was their first shot of the game, scoring on the counterattack after Troy Paul's shot was saved in the 16th minute. The Eagles found an opening on the right side and the Wildcats nearly cleared the ball off the line, but the Eagles led, 1-0, 16:32 into the match.
Post goalkeeper Soren Jenson made five of his seven saves in the first half, as the Wildcats outshot the Eagles, 9-2, going into the halftime break. Looking to tie the match, the Wildcats pressed in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Wildcats outshot the Eagles, 8-1, in the second half, and 17-3 for the match.
The Wildcats' tough opening stretch of games continues Tuesday night as they head to regionally ranked Millersville for a contest under the lights. The opening whistle is set for 7:00 p.m.
