NEW CASTLE, Del. - - A two-out rally, capped by a two-run double by Tyler Pirrung, saw the Wilmington University baseball team sweep Felician, 13-3 (8 inn) and 2-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference cross-divisional contest on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh of game two, a pinch-hit single sparked a rally and Tyler Pirrung hit a two-run double with the bases loaded for the teams' sixth one-run victory of the season.

GAME 1:

A six-run second inning and a four-run fourth inning set the stage for the Wildcats in a 13-3 victory in 8-innings to start the doubleheader. Kody Clausius knocked in the run in the eighth inning to enforce the 10-run mercy rule.

The Wildcats scored a run and then loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first, but only scored once more to take a 2-1. Justin Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to start a 6-run second inning, With the bases loaded, a two-run error kept the inning alive and then Josearmando Diaz plated two more with a single into center and the Wildcats led 8-1.

Tyler Pirrung, Chase Fleming, Josearmando Diaz, and Shawn Edevane all collected RBI in the fourth inning, pushing the lead out to 12-2. A Felician homer knocked out the mercy-rule until the Wildcats batted again in the eighth.

Alex Krick led off the inning with a double. Now with two out and runners on second and third, Kody Clausius singled in the hole between first and second. The second baseman dove and knocked it down, but didn't have a play on Clausius as the winning run crossed the plate.

Scott Borgmann went five innings, striking out three while allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks to improve to 2-2. Yoshi Conti, Xavier Cortez, and Steven Mann all tossed scoreless innings of relief. Kory Pritchard went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

GAME 2:

The Wildcats' Steve Schenning and Golden Falcons' Logan Waltz battled back and forth through four innings, keeping the game scoreless. The Wildcats left two on in the third and Felician left two on in the fourth, but neither could scratch a run across.

Felician found a way in the fifth, as a cue-ball grounder went through the legs of the Wildcats, allowing a two-out unearned run to score for the 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats wouldn't put a runner in scoring position again until the seventh.

With two outs and the bases empty, pinch hitter Mason DeLuca hit a single to spark a rally. Brandon Grygo was hit by a pitch and Chase Fleming walked to load the bases. Tyler Pirrung then took the first pitch of his at-bat and hit the right field wall, easily scoring two runners for the walk-off double.

Schenning went five innings, allowing the unearned run on four hits and three strikeouts. Zack Czarnecki pitched a scoreless sixth and Dom Marotta pitched a scoreless seventh, picking up the win to move to 3-0.
