NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University softball team stretched its winning stretch to seven straight on Sunday afternoon, picking up a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victories over Concordia, 5-1 (10 innings) and 5-0, at Asbury Field.

The Wildcats (20-13, 8-6 CACC) and Clippers (2-12, 1-7 CACC) were locked in a pitchers duel and needed the international tiebreaker rule to determine a winner in the 10^th inning in the opener. The Wildcats then jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap to pick up the CACC sweep.

Sophomore Caitlyn Whiteside and Concordia' Sarah Ross locked horn in the opener, both pitching all 10 innings. Whiteside struck out six while only allowing eight hits and not walking a batter. Ross struck out two batters while allowing six hits. Neither pitcher gave up a walk in the game. The Clippers stranded eight runners on base in the game while the Wildcats left six on base.

With the international tiebreaker in effect, the Wildcats struck first in the top of the ninth, executing a sacrifice squeeze play. But the Clippers answered by hitting a double to center in the bottom half.

The Wildcats regained the lead in the top of the 10^th inning, plating the first two runs of the frame on squeeze plays as well. Then with two runners on and two outs, Jazmeen Llamas tripled to right center to add two insurance runs and extend the lead out to 5-1.

Whiteside was then able to strand the Concordia runner at third in the bottom of the 10^th inning, inducing a pop up and a line out to end the game, 5-1. Whiteside improved to 12-5 on the season with the win.

The offense got started a little earlier for the Wildcats in the nightcap, Rosa'Lynn Burton and Jazmeen Llamas started the game with back-to-back singles and Colby Wyatt cleared the bases with a three-run shot down the left field line in the top of the first.

Burton started the top of the third inning with a leadoff triple before Llamas shot one back up the middle, and between the pitcher's legs, to bring in Burton for the 4-0 lead. Now with runners on first and third and one out Meghan Brown singled into left field to bring in Llamas and cap the scoring for the Wildcats.

That was more than enough for game-two starter Brooklyn Lachette, as she collected her first complete game shutout of the season, going the distance with five strikeouts. She only allowed four hits while not giving up a walk. She stranded five runners on base throughout the game. She evened her record at 2-2 with the complete game shutout.

Burton collected two hits in each game, going 4-for-8 with two runs scored on the day. Llamas went 4-for-7 with three RBI and three runs scored in the doubleheader, batting 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the nightcap.

The Wildcats will play their third doubleheader in as many days on Monday, as they make up a date with Bloomfield. They head to northern New Jersey for the CACC doubleheader with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
