NEWARK, Del. - - Junior shortstop Lexi Moore has been voted the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East Region Player of the Year, leading a cast of four Wilmington University softball players on a pair of All-Region Teams announced this week.

Both Lexi Moore and Taylor Gillis are unanimous All-Region First Team selections, being voted to the top team on both the D2CCA and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Teams. Kylee Gunkel and Sara Miller were voted First Team D2CCA All-Region and Second Team NFCA All-Region.

Lexi Moore (Dover Del.) is the first Wildcat to be named the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year in program history after becoming the second Wildcat to ever win the CACC Player of the Year award. She leads the CACC and ranks 16th in all of NCAA Division II with a .457 batting average and is seventh in the country with a CACC leading 84 hits. Moore is also fourth in the CACC with a .476 on-base percentage, and when she gets on, she advances bases, stealing 37 bases in 41 attempts. She is also second in the CACC with 55 runs scored. Her 37 bags rank 16th in NCAA DII. In nine games in the postseason, she is hitting .367 (11-for-30) with six stolen bases.

Taylor Gillis (Hockessin, Del.) is another threat atop the Wildcat lineup, ranking seventh in the CACC with a .409 batting average and fourth in the league with 70 hits. She is tied for the team lead with 12 doubles and is second on the team with 39 RBI and four homers, all from the leadoff spot in the lineup. She is ninth in the CACC with a .449 on-base percentage and is another threat to run once she gets on, ranking fifth in the CACC with 26 stolen bases.

Sara Miller (Clayton, Del.) was named to the NFCA Second Team All-Region and D2CCA First Team All-Region as a utility player. She is third on the team with a .369 batting average while leading the team and ranking fifth in the CACC with a .655 slugging percentage. She set a new WilmU program record with 62 RBI on the year, ranking second in the CACC and 16th in all of NCAA DII. She is also third in the CACC while tying the WilmU program record with 10 homers on the season.

Kylee Gunkel (Highland, Md.), the CACC Pitcher of the Year, was named First Team D2CCA All-Region and Second Team NFCA All-Region. She set a new WilmU program record with 21 victories in the circle this year, leading the CACC and ranking 22nd in NCAA DII. She also leads the CACC and ranks 20th in the country with a 1.42 ERA on the year, striking out 110 batters while only walking 40 batters. She is 21-5 on the year with five shutouts, throwing 167.1 innings with a 1.01 WHIP. Batters are hitting just .211 against the sophomore righty.

The student-athletes voted First Team are now nominated for All-American in the respective organization. Lexi Moore, Taylor Gillis, Sara Miller, and Kylee Gunkel lead the Wildcats into the 2023 East Super Region this weekend at Adelphi. The first game of the best-of-three series is set for Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in Garden City, New York.
