Tristyn Stewart, Sydney Hatch, and Xavier Cortez Named CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three Wildcats excelled on the diamond last week as Tristyn Stewart, Sydney Hatch, and Xavier Cortez were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Tristyn Stewart was named the CACC Softball Player of the Week while teammate Sydney Hatch hit her way to the CACC Rookie of the Week award. Xavier Cortez tossed eight scoreless innings to earn the CACC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Tristyn Stewart (Centreville, Md.) hit .600 last week, going 12-for-20 with two doubles, a triple, five RBI, six runs scored, and went 5-for-5 in stolen bases. She had a hit in all six games last week, going 2-for-5 in a sweep of Jefferson, 5-for-7 in a sweep of Post, and 5-for-9 in a sweep of Molloy. She went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple in game one at Post, scoring three runs. Went 3-for-5 with three RBI in game two against the Eagles. She finished the week 3-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases in game two at Molloy.

Sydney Hatch (Magnolia, Del.) led the Wildcats with nine RBI last week, batting 8-for-12 with a double, a triple, a homer, and five runs scored. She went 9-for-10 in four games over the weekend, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored in game two at Post. She then went 3-for-3 with a double, a homer, and five RBI in game two at Molloy. She finished with a 1.900 OPS for the week.

Xavier Cortez (Vineland, N.J.) appeared in two games last week, throwing 9.0 innings without allowing a run and striking out 13 batters with only one walk. He came out of the pen for an inning of work against Felician, striking out a pair in the Wildcats' 13-3 win. He then started game one of the series against No. 18 Jefferson, throwing 8.0 scoreless innings while striking out a career best 11 batters. He only allowed four hits and a walk in the 5-2 win, improving to 4-1 on the season.

Softball's Delani Sheehan was named the Weekly Honor Roll after going 3-0 in the circle while Andrew Dzubak was named to the men's lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll after scoring five goals and adding an assist in the team's lone game. Women's lacrosse's Tristan Holdsworth was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after scoring nine goals and two assists in two games last week.
