Women Finish a Program Best 3rd; Men Second at 2024 CACC Track and Field Championships

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University track and field team wrapped up the 2024 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships on Sunday, with the men finishing second overall and the women finishing a program-best third overall while competing on the Georgian Court University Track and Field Complex.

The men finished second overall with 117 points, just ahead of Goldey-Beacom's 114 points. The women finished a program-best third place with 96.5 points, but 2.5 points away from Holy Family in second place. Holy Family won the men's side with 148 points while Felician went back-to-back on the women's side with 232 points.

Three school records highlighted the Wildcats on Sunday, all of which came on the women's side. Not only did Temi Mustapha win the 100-meter event and earn the fastest women in the CACC honor, but she also set a new school record in the preliminary round on Saturday, running in 12.16. Her winning time of 12.04 in the final was wind-aided, or else that would be the new record. Freshman Eliza Hildreth broke her own school record from earlier in the season in the 200-meter event, finishing second overall with a time of 25.50. Tiffany Banning broke her own school record in the 5,000-meter besting her time from last year's CACC Championship with 18:47.44, winning the event as well.

Dallas Parker scored in six events for the Wildcats over the weekend, winning the pole vault on Saturday before finishing second overall in the 110-meter hurdles. The would-be school record time was wind-aided, but he placed second with a time of 14.97. He also finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a team-best time this year of 54.87. He finished fifth in the triple jump with a team-best distance of 13.98 meters, eighth in the high jump, and was a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed third.

Christian Dollard earned Second Team All-CACC status in the discus on Sunday, throwing the disc 40.68 meters. Trent Taylor finished in third place in both the long-distance events this weekend, running the 10K on Saturday before finishing third overall in the 5K on Sunday with a season's best time of 15:19.82.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Matt Hibbert, Sage Phillips, Juan Fountain, and Tyler Levons were the final All-Conference performers for the men, finishing second overall just 0.01 second behind Felician with a time of 41.94. The 4x400 meter relay team finished third overall for six more points towards the team score.

The women had seven All-Conference performances over the weekend, including a 1-2 finish in the 100-meter race. The Wildcats set a new program record with their 96.5 points this weekend.

Temi Mustapha won the 100-meter event, finishing just ahead of Eliza Hildreth who placed second overall with a time of 12.19, as the Wildcats captured 18 points in the 100-meter race.

Eliza Hildreth then went out and placed second in the 200-meter event, breaking her own school record with a time of 25.50, while adding eight points to the team.

Tiffany Banning set a new school record in the 5K event, winning the race in 18:47.44 while adding 10 points to the team. She also scored in the 10K on Saturday, earning Second Team All-CACC with a second-place finish and eight team points.

Temi Mustapha kept rolling into her field events, earning another All-CACC honor in the triple jump. She leaped to a second-place finish with a distance of 10.73 meters. Viviana Caamano had an All-Conference toss in the hammer throw on Saturday, finishing second with a distance of 38.69 meters.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Deja Curry, Mustapha, Trinity Brittingham, and Hildreth ran to a third-place finish in 50.45 seconds while the same combo finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a new season's best time of 4:17.41.

Abigail Chomo set a new team best for the year in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing fifth overall with a time of 13:29.85, rounding out the highlights for the women's team.

Temi Mustapha scored 33 points for the Wildcats, spanning five events.

The Wildcats still have competitions remaining in the year, trying to reach provisional marks to enter the NCAA National Championships. The Wildcats go to the IC4A/ECAC Championships hosted by George Mason next weekend in Fairfax, Virginia.
