NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University bowling team had another solid afternoon at the Griffin Baker Classic on Sunday, finishing third overall while going 4-1 in head-to-head contests at the Bowlero Wilmington.
The Wildcats finished just behind Caldwell and Adelphi who tied for first overall. The Wildcats put down a total of 4,432 pins on Sunday for a 177.28 average.
The day started with a close loss to Adelphi, 943-922, but then the Wildcats rattled off four straight victories to go 4-1 on the day.
They defeated Molloy, 906-879, Felician, 887-872, St. Thomas Aquinas, 855-702, and capped the day with a bounce back match against Adelphi, winning 862-801.
The Wildcats were again led by freshman Sydney Jones, as she finished with an 18.93 Baker frame average. She was the Day 1 Tournament MVP on Saturday and again put a high score on the board on Sunday.
Rachel Hirst was second on the team with an 18.37 Baker frame average while KC Miller was third on the team with 17.68 Baker frame average. CC Riojas finished with a 16.96 Baker frame average while Malia Stout rounded out the team with a 16.22 Baker frame average.
Desiree Dent bowling in 18 frames on the day, but when she was in she produced, finishing with an 18.70 Baker frame average.
The Wildcats will take a weekend off and prepare to host the Wildcat Division II Invitational starting on Friday, February 18. The three-day tournament will be run at Bowlerama in New Castle.
