Women’s Lacrosse Races Out to Large Lead in 21-3 Victory over Chestnut Hill

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team didn't allow a goal in the first half in route to a 21-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-1 in the CACC, and can get back to .500 on the year with another win in their next game on Saturday against Nyack, improving to 2-3 overall.

The Wildcats only allowed four shots in the first half, won eight of the 13 draws, and forced Chestnut Hill into 15 turnovers in the opening 30 minutes. That allowed the offense to get 21 shots off, scoring on 13 to open the large lead.

Brooke Siebert started the scoring on an assist from Taylor Lambeth with 28:35 left, and the Wildcats were off and running. Maris Allen and Makenzie Stritzinger each scored three goals while Maddie Day, Taylor Lambeth, and Brooke Siebert all chipped in with two goals each. Amelie Gamache was the sixth Wildcat to get on the scoresheet in the first half with a goal.

Maddie Day scored the first goal of the second half and then Chestnut Hill got on the scoreboard with their first goal with 26:23 left in regulation. The Wildcats then scored four more in a row to take an 18-1 lead before Chestnut Hill scored again with 13:01 to play. Lauren Gresham scored her second goal of the second half while Maris Allen added a women-advantage goal to take a 20-2 lead. The teams then traded free-position goals to close out the scoring.

Reigning CACC Player of the Week Taylor Lambeth led the Wildcats with eight points on Wednesday, scoring twice while adding six assists. Maris Allen scored five goals and added an assist for six points while Maddie Day scored five goals on five shots. Brooke Siebert scored three goals while adding two assists, five draws, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Makenzie Stritzinger scored three goals and added an assist for four points.

Tori Grubowski didn't allow a goal while making two saves in the first half before turning it over to Katie Vindigni. Vindigni made three saves in the second half to close out the win.

Saturday's opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
