
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Four spring student-athletes highlighted the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Reports, as women's lacrosse lands three and softball adds another, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
For the second straight week, Ella Royer has been named the CACC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week while Haley Grygo has been named the CACC Softball Rookie of the Week. Joining Royer on the women's lacrosse report is Eden Ward as the Defensive Player of the Week and Ashleigh Lawry as the Goalkeeper of the Week.
In two victories last week, Ella Royer (Sherwood Park, Alberta) scored 16 goals while adding four assists for 20 points. She put up 23 shots with 21 of them going on goal for the week. She also added 15 draw controls, 10 ground balls, and four caused turnovers. She scored seven goals and four assists at Virginia State, adding 10 draws, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. She then scored nine goals to go with six ground balls and five draws at Converse.
Eden Ward (York, Pa.) led the defensive charge in the two victories, collecting 10 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. She also added 11 draws last week. In the win at Virginia State, she collected six ground balls and four caused turnovers, adding two draws. At Converse, Ward collected four ground balls and four caused turnovers, adding nine draws as well.
Ashleigh Lawry (Rigdely, Md.) picked up both victories in goal for the Wildcats last week, making 10 saves while playing the first half of each game. She made two stops at West Virginia State and then had eight more at Converse. She collected a .400 save percentage for the week while facing 32 shots.
For the second straight week to open her collegiate career, Haley Grygo (Middletown, Del.) was named the CACC Rookie of the Week after shooting .400 in eight games last week. She batted 10-for-25 last week with two doubles, a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored while holding a 1.000 fielding percentage. She had two hits each against Florida Southern, Concordia-St. Paul, and No. 3 Tampa. She had at least one hit in seven of the eight games last week. She also made all 12 plays that came her way at third with nine assists and three putouts.
Delani Sheehan was named to the softball Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Wildcats with a .412 batting average last week while baseball's Xavier Cortez was named the baseball's Weekly Honor Roll after throwing six scoreless innings against Point Park. Men's Lacrosse's Daniel Flynn and Josh Weston were named to their sport's Weekly Honor last week as well.
