NYACK, N.Y. - - Loran Wyrough scored four goals, two of which came in the second half to lead the Wilmington University women's soccer team past Nyack, 4-2, on the road in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday afternoon on Moseley Field.
The Wildcats (6-5, 6-1 CACC) secured their fifth straight CACC victory, staying in fourth in the conference standings. The Warriors (1-9-1, 1-5 CACC) received two first half goals but couldn't answer Wyrough and the Wildcats in the second half.
The first half was bookended with goals, as the teams came out of the gates and closed the half on a tear. Wyrough started the scoring in the fifth minute of play, getting a pass from Jackie Trafton before scoring her seventh goal of the season.
Five minutes later, the Warriors tied the game with a goal from Katherin Oldfield, and the game remained 1-1 until the final five minutes.
Wyrough once again gave the Wildcats the lead scoring her second goal of the game in the 42nd minute, off a feed from La'Dae Boykin. But the Warriors were able to tie the game before the break, however, as Krystal Vega scoring 43:04 into the match.
The Wildcats out shot the Warriors, 12-7, in the first half while both goalkeepers made three saves in the first 45 minutes.
Out of the break, Wyrough has an opportunity for her hat trick in the 52nd minute, but her penalty kick opportunity was saved by Nyack's Jordan Jansen.
Wyrough would get another chance, however, as the sophomore buried a shot from Kim Richer for the ninth goal of the season, 60:03 into the match.
The Wildcats continued to put the pressure on the Warriors, putting the next three shots on the board. Wyrough put the final touches on the game with her fourth goal of the contest in the 76th minute, an unassisted tally for her 10th goal of the season.
The Warriors could only muster one final shot following the 4-2 lead, and the header off the corner went wide.
The Wildcats out shot the Warriors, 21-10, for the match despite the Warriors earning more corners, 6-3. Jansen made six saves for the Warriors while Kierstyn Williams recorded three saves for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats return to the WU Athletics Complex and remain in the CACC for their next contest, as they host defending CACC Tournament Champion Philadelphia on Tuesday. The teams square off starting at 3:30 p.m.
