Barcaro’s Comeback Cements Women’s Tennis’ 4-3 Victory over Chestnut Hill

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team won the first four singles matches to come back and defeat Chestnut Hill, 4-3, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Thursday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

After dropping the doubles point, the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0 CACC) roared back and won the first four singles matches that finished, clinching the team victory over Chestnut Hill (2-2, 2-1 CACC).

Ming-Fu Chen and Lyza Sylka won at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, to make it 1-1, but the Griffins captured the doubles' point with a win at No. 2 doubles, 6-4.

Ming-Fu Chen continued rolling right into her singles match, winning at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-1, to tie the match, 1-1. Molly Carlberg gave the Wildcats the lead with a 6-0 and 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, and then Kushi Khandoji brought the Wildcats to within a match of the victory with a win at No. 4 singles, 6-4 and 6-1.

Trailing 3-0 and 5-2 in the first set, Gloria Barcaro came roaring back, winning five straight games to stun Claudia Rasilla at No. 6 singles. Barcaro carried the momentum into the second set, winning 6-0 to sweep the match and clinch the victory for the Wildcats, 4-1.

Both Siana MacDonald and Lyza Sylka went into third sets, but Chestnut Hill claimed matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to make it a 4-3 outcome.

The Wildcats take to the road for the first time this season for their next match, as they head to Dominican on Saturday. The first serve is set for 12:00 p.m. at Manny Welder Park in Monsey, New York.
