Women’s Tennis Finishes Week 3-0 with Shutout of Dominican, 7-0

MONSEY, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team completed its 3-0 week with a 7-0 shutout of Dominican on Saturday, winning all but one set at Manny Weldler Park.

The Wildcats won tough Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches on Tuesday and Thursday, and then was able to shutout Dominican (0-3, 0-3 CACC).

The doubles teams only dropped one game among all three matches. Ines Oliveira saw her first action of the year at No. 3 doubles with Gloria Barcaro, winning 6-0 to start the scoring. Ming-Fu Chen and Siana MacDonald earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 1 singles as well. Lyza Sylka and Molly Carlberg made it a clean sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 2.

Kushi Khandoji started the singles scoring with a clean sweep at No. 3, winning 6-0 and 6-1. Gloria Barcaro made it 3-0 with a 6-0 and 6-1 win at No. 5 singles while Ines Oliveira clinched the match with a 6-0 and 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Molly Carlberg kept the shutout alive with a 6-3 and 6-0 win at No. 1 followed by a victory at No. 2 singles by Siana MacDonald, 6-3 and 6-2. Dominican's Lia Sarjveladzr won the second set against Lyza Sylka to force a third super set at No. 4 singles, but then Sylka was able to secure the win, 10-4, and the donut, 7-0, for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats remain on the road for three more contests, starting with a trip to Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon. They will take on Jefferson with the first serve scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
