
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - A perfect 3-0 week led to a pair of Wilmington University volleyball student-athletes earning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
For the first time this season, Kacey Affrunti (Bayport, N.Y.) has been named CACC Player of the Week while Elly Collins (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year.
The pair helped lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 record, sweeping West Chester, Goldey-Beacom, and Caldwell to move above .500 overall for the first time this year.
Kacey Affrunti was tied for the team lead with 30 kills in nine sets, averaging 3.33 per set. She only committed eight errors on 60 swings, hitting .367 for the week. Affrunti also led the team with 10 block assists last week, averaging 1.11 blocks per set. She was also second on the team with five aces. Affrunti put down 13 kills while adding six blocks at West Chester and then collected six kills on nine swings while hitting .556 against Goldey-Beacom. She finished her week with 11 kills without committing an error at Caldwell.
Elly Collins was all over the floor last week, getting to 52 digs in nine sets, averaging 5.78 per set. She had double-digit digs in all three matches, but got better as the week went on. She collected 10 digs at West Chester before collecting 11 digs in three sets against Goldey-Beacom. Her week ended with an astounding 31 digs in three sets, averaging 10.34, in a win at Caldwell. Collins is currently tops in the CACC with 486 digs this year, ranking second overall in averaging 4.58 digs per set.
The Wildcats host Holy Family in their final regular season contest on Wednesday night. The opening serve against the Tigers is set for 7:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
