WHEELING, W.Va. - - The third and final round of the NCAA DII Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament was cut short for the pair of Wilmington University golfers, as the two Wildcats closed their seasons at the Oglebay Resort hosted by West Liberty.
Tyler Cleaves and Pablo Quintero were working their way through the back nine when darkness started to become an issue after the second weather delay of the final round. Cleaves and Quintero were a part of 24 student-athletes that couldn't finish the round, even resulting in multiple teams withdrawing from team scoring for the final round.
Tyler Cleaves (Kaukauna, Wisc.) was continuing to climb the ranks of the leaderboard after a slow start in his first round. After his first round 80 (+9), Cleaves shot a 72 (+1) in the second round and at last look, was only one-over (37) at the turn on Saturday. Cleaves had 12 pars in his opening round but was hurt by three bogeys and three doubles. He cleaned that up for the second round, shooting nine pars with four birdies and five bogeys for his 72 (+1). He was up to 41st after the second round on Friday.
Pablo Quintero (Bogota, Colombia) shot a 76 on Thursday in the first round and then posted an 81 on Friday. His Regional started with eight pars and a birdie on the front nine on Thursday, making the turn at one-under par. He finished the round with two birdies and 10 pars sitting in a tie for 33rd after the opening 18. The back nine again gave Quintero issues on Friday in the second round, as he had two birdies on the front and made the turn at one-over par. He finished with an 81 on Friday and then got through the turn again on Saturday before being called for darkness.
Gannon won the team championship by 23 strokes over Charleston. Gannon won with an 864 (+12) while Charleston (887), St. Thomas Aquinas (889), Indiana (Pa) (892), and Post (905) all advanced to the National Tournament by finishing in the Top 5.
