Aniyah Bond Ties Season High with 18 Points in Loss at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - - Aniyah Bond tied her season high with 18 points as the Wilmington University women's basketball team fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division leading Dominican, 81-53, on Saturday afternoon inside the Hennessy Center.

The Wildcats (0-16, 0-5 CACC) won the second and fourth quarters against the Chargers (14-4, 6-0 CACC), but a slow start to the game allowed Dominican to jump out to a big lead. After falling behind, 25-5, the Wildcats won the second quarter, 18-16, and again won the fourth quarter, 19-17.

The Chargers came out of the gates firing, hitting 5-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc in the first quarter. They shot 8-of-16 from the floor altogether, scoring 25 points. They used a 14-0 run to take a 17-2 lead and then another 8-0 run later in the quarter to take a 25-4 advantage.

The Chargers started the second quarter with another three-pointer but then the Wildcats scored five straight with Jasmine McDuffie hitting a three-pointer. Aniyah Bond hit a three-pointer in the quarter leading the team with five points in the frame. Armani Bell-Jackson also scored five points in the quarter, adding three steals while going 3-for-4 from the foul line. The Wildcats forced Dominican into eight turnovers in the frame, helping them win the quarter, 18-16, but still down, 41-23, at the halftime break.

The Wildcats and Chargers traded buckets through the first five minutes of the third quarter, but then the Chargers ended the frame on a  14-2 run to extend the lead out to 64-34.

Aniyah Bond did the bulk of her scoring in the fourth quarter, going 3-for-3 from the field, including a three-pointer, and 2-for-2 from the foul line for nine points. TyKeisha Hill added six points in the quarter as well for the Wildcats.

Aniyah Bond led the Wildcats with 18 points and three rebounds. TyKeisha Hill added 13 points and four rebounds while Armani Bell-Jackson came off the bench to score seven points and add two rebounds and three assists. Jasmine McDuffie grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss.

The Wildcats are home twice next week, returning to action on Wednesday evening to face South Division leading Holy Family. The opening tip at the WU Athletics Complex is set for 6:00 p.m.
