Golf Finishes Jay Jennison Cup Strong with 293 in Final Round

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot a third round second best 293 on Tuesday, finishing the Jay Jennison Cup in 10th place with a three-round score of 932 at The Palencia Club.

The 293 (+5) tied for the second-best team score on Tuesday while also being the sixth best round of the tournament. The Wildcats shot rounds of 332-307-293 for a 932 (+68) to finish 10th out of 10 teams.

Freshman Noah Wallace led the Wildcats with a 222 (+6), finishing in a tie for 14th overall. He improved each round, shooting scores of 78-73-71. Wallace totaled nine birdies in the tournament, including four in the third round to go one-under. He had back-to-back birdies on holes two and three and again on holes 16 and 17 in his final round.

Freshman Josh Freeman finished in a tie for 33rd overall, shooting rounds of 78-79-71 for a 228 (+12). Four of his eight birdies came in the final round of play, tying Wallace for the best round of the tournament for the Wildcats, 71 (-1).

Pablo Quintero tied for 47th overall with round scores of 84-75-74 for a 233 (+17). He tied Wallace for the team lead with nine birdies for the tournament, including five in the second round.

Ryan Heenan finished in 57th place with round scores of 92-82-78 for a 252 (+36). All three of his birdies came in the second round.

Sacha Brown did not figure into the overall scoring but shot rounds of 80 and 77 in the second and third rounds, respectively.

Wingate won the tournament with rounds of 291-290-292 for an 873 (+9), defeating Rollins by 10 strokes. Lenoir-Rhyne's Holt Allison won medalist honors after posting scores of 70-70-67 for a 207 (-9). Only three student-athletes finished under par for the tournament.

The Wildcats will now prepare for the CACC Championships, as the postseason tournament begins on Monday, October 7. The Wildcats will host the tournament at White Clay Creek Country Club, starting with 36 holes on Monday.
