Four Wildcats Pick Up CACC Weekly Awards

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Four Wilmington University student-athletes have been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as women's soccer, cross country, and women's tennis all had weekly winners, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Women's soccer went 2-0 in CACC play led by the CACC Player of the Week Alyssa Ruggeri and the CACC Defensive Player of the Week Maria Leguizamon. The men's cross country team won the Delaware Invitational, led by the CACC Co-Runner of the Week Trent Taylor. The women's tennis team went 3-0 in CACC play, led by the CACC Rookie of the Week Molly Carlberg.

Alyssa Ruggeri (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led a comeback victory over Chestnut Hill to start CACC play. She scored the tying goal in the 62nd minute and the converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to complete the comeback victory, 2-1. She took 10 shots in the two games last week, five of which were on goal.

Maria Leguizamon (Bogota, Colombia) helped lead the defensive effort of the Wildcats, allowing only one goal in two games. She also got involved in the offensive effort, assisting on Ruggeri's first goal at Chestnut Hill and then bending in a corner kick against Post for the 2-0 lead.

Trent Taylor (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) led the Delaware Invitational from start to finish, cruising to a 23 second victory over the field. He ran the 8K course at White Clay Creek State Park in 27:50.1 minutes, helping the Wildcats to a tie for first place and victories over Georgian Court and Goldey-Beacom from the CACC.

Molly Carlberg (Vadstena, Sweden) helped the women's tennis team to a 3-0 week while starting dual matches. The newcomer went 3-0 in singles matches while also going 2-1 in doubles matches in victories over Goldey-Beacom, Chestnut Hill, and Dominican. She was the clinching point in a comeback victory over Goldey-Beacom after dropping the first set at No. 2 singles. She then won at No. 2 singles against Chestnut Hill and No. 1 singles at Dominican. In doubles, she teamed up with Siana MacDonald to win at No. 1 doubles against Goldey-Beacom and Lyza Sylka at No. 2 doubles against Dominican.

Men's soccer's Theo Faillon was named to the weekly Honor Roll after scoring two goals at Chestnut Hill. Carter Sparwasser was the second finisher for the men's cross country team and was named to the weekly Honor Roll, as was the women's top finisher in Tiffany Banning.
