WILMINGTON, Del. – The Wilmington University women's tennis team was able to get one point in their 6-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to undefeated Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
Laura Gil would win the No. 1 singles match with a 3-0 retirement victory for the Wildcats (2-6, 2-4 CACC) to give them their lone point of the day. Gil and Sabrina Blasi-Smith would look for the No. 1 doubles win, but fall 6-2, as Andrea Ribalta and Mallory Nolte could not match the Lightning's (6-0, 6-0 CACC) No. 2 doubles team, as they lost, 6-0.
Blasi-Smith would take three points away from Goldey-Beacom in No. 3 singles, but fall 6-2 and 6-1 throughout both sets. Mallory Nolte and newcomer Grace Suttera took on No. 4 and 5 singles, but fell 6-0 in each set.
Gil now moves to 5-3 on the year in singles play, staying perfect in No. 2 singles with a 3-0 record.
The Wildcats have another tough team ahead, as they look to take on the second place team in the CACC, Concordia on Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Del Castle Tennis Center.
