BALTIMORE, Md. - - A three-goal stretch spanning the third and fourth quarters gave the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team enough space to get by Frostburg State, 9-7, Tuesday night for its first win of the 2025 season, played at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.

After the Bobcats (2-3) tied the game, 4-4, with the first goal of the third quarter, the Wildcats (1-3) scored the two remaining two goals of the frame and then scored the first of the fourth quarter to take their largest lead of the game, 7-4.

In the tightly contested matchup, the Bobcats outshot the Wildcats, 42-37, but the Wildcats found the frame more, 33-17, putting the pressure on Frostburg State. Daniel Flynn made 10 saves for the Wildcats while the Bobcats' Logan Covey made 24 stops.

Andrew Dzubak and Toby Templeton gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead within the first three minutes of the game, as Dzubak scored on the Wildcats' opening offensive possession. After a save from Flynn, the Wildcats took it down the field and Templeton scored for the 2-0 lead with 12:34 to play in the quarter. But that's all that would get past the Bobcat netminder, as he made six saves in the first quarter.

Dominik West made it 3-0 with his lone goal of the game with 13:12 to play in the second. But then the Bobcats got rolling, scoring three straight to tie the game with 2:59 left before the halftime break. Another save by Flynn gave the Wildcats possession at the end of the half and Gavin Paraschak scored off a feed from Dzubak to put the Wildcats ahead, 4-3, at the halftime break.

Frostburg State scored just 51 seconds into the third quarter to tie the game, 4-4. Cole Hamberger scored his first goal of the season to give the Wildcats the lead once more with 8:31 to play. Josh Weston then got on the board with a feed from Kyle Parker and the Wildcats took a 6-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

Toby Templeton scored his second of the game to start the fourth quarter scoring, giving the Wildcats a 7-4 lead with 11:16 left in regulation. Frostburg State cut the deficit to within 7-6, with goals just 51 seconds apart. Toby Templeton gave the Wildcats some breathing room with his third of the game with 5:49 to play before Frostburg made it a one-goal game again with 3:35 to play. Frostburg State won the ensuing faceoff but two shots missed the cage and the final was saved by Daniel Flynn. Carter Earl then sealed the victory with a goal with 39 seconds to play.

Toby Templeton was the only Wildcat to score multiple goals, making it a hat trick. Andrew Dzubak had a goal and an assist. Paul Army had two caused turnovers and three grounds balls on defense for the Wildcats. Connor Widmer went 10-for-18 on face-off opportunities.

The Wildcats begin Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with their next contest, as they welcome Dominican to the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday. The opening face-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
