Women’s Tennis Blanks West Chester, 7-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis bageled West Chester on Tuesday afternoon, claiming all seven points of the nonconference match on the South Campus Courts.

The Wildcats improved to 13-2 on the season, starting to get into the thick of their spring season.

On Tuesday, West Chester picked up a match win at No. 1 doubles, but the Wildcats were able to take the doubles points as Fenna Swaan and Valentina Ivankovic wont at No. 2, 6-1, and Marley Trifunovic and Gloria Barcaro won the rubber match, 7-5, for the point.

The singles matches were all Wilmington with only one of the matches needing to go to a third set superset.

Marley Trifunovic won at No. 6 singles, 6-0 and 6-1, and then Larize Nel made it a 3-0 match with a 6-0 and 6-2 victory at No.5 singles. Fenna Swaan gave the Wildcats the match with a 6-2 and 6-2 win at No. 3, 4-0. Jessica Purdy kept the Wildcats rolling with a win at No. 2 singles, 6-3 and 6-3, before Gloria Barcaro had another sweep at No. 4 singles, 6-3 and 6-4.

Alva Norberg won the first set at No. 1, 7-5, but dropped the second set, 6-4, to go into a third set super set to determine a winner. It was all Norberg in the superset, winning, 10-5, to make it a clean sweep, 7-0.

The Wildcats begin a tough stretch of East Region competition on Saturday when they host ECC Champions Queens at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The first serve is set for 2:00 p.m. against the Knights.
