Offense Came to Play as Volleyball Sweeps Felician To Get Back in Win Column

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team bounced back after a loss in a big way, dismantling Felician, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Saturday night at the WU Athletics Complex.

Set scores for the match were 25-13, 25-10, and 25-11.

The Wildcats hit a season's best .411 for the match, putting down 43 kills on 90 swings with only six errors. It is the first time the team hit over .400 in a single game since the 2008 team did it against Chestnut Hill on October 7, putting down 33 kills on 62 attempts with only 4 errors for a .468 attack percentage.

An 6-0 run early in the match gave the Wildcats an 8-4 lead before another 8-2 run gave the Wildcats a 21-11 lead. Brice Hansen gave the Wildcats set point with a kill and then Dorie Moore put the Wildcats on top with a kill, 25-13.

A 4-0 run early in the second set gave the Wildcats a 9-2 lead and forced Felician into an early timeout. A Felician kill brought the score to 17-9, but then the Wildcats rattled off seven straight points on the service by Heather Pedrick to get to set point. Kacey Affrunti and Katie Bushong had a block in the run while Jess Connelly and Pedrick added kills. Heather Pedrick also had back-to-back jump serve aces during the spurt. Kacey Affrunti put the set away with a kill, 25-10.

The Wildcats didn't let up in the third set, turning an 8-6 lead into a 17-6 lead following the serve of Elly Collins. Katie Bushong put down a kill on the second touch to move it to 20-8, and then Heather Pedrick and Shannen Litten put down back-to-back kills to end the match, 25-11.

The Wildcats hit .536 in the third set alone, collecting 17 kills with only two errors on 28 attempts. Kacey Affrunti hit .667 for the match, putting down 12 kills without committing an error on 18 swings. She also added seven blocks (two solo) to led the Wildcats at the net. Heather Pedrick hit .304 with 11 kills, adding 14 digs for the double-double.

Katie Bushong dished out 39 assists while adding three kills, four digs, and four block assists. Elly Collins led the back row with 21 digs while Brice Hansen chipped in with 10 digs and seven kills.
