
WATERBURY, Conn. - - The Wilmington University baseball team won a pair of marathon games on the road, giving Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division leading Post its first two conference losses, 19-14 and 14-12, on Tuesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
GAME 1:
Post grabbed a 7-2 lead after two innings, but the Wildcats scored 12 straight runs to take the lead before hanging on at the end.
Chase Fleming hit a two-run single to start the scoring in the third inning before Kory Pritchard and Cam Trego added RBI singles to close the gap to 7-6. Cam Trego then gave the Wildcats the lead in the top of the fourth, bringing in Josearmando Diaz with a bunt single. Garrett Quinn hit a two-run double, and Brandon Grygo added an RBI double as the Wildcats took an 11-7 lead.
Now trailing 14-7, the Eagles scored three runs on three hits in the fifth inning, getting to within 14-10 while leaving the bases loaded.
The Wildcats answered right back with three runs in the top of the sixth as a Chase Fleming single and an error by the left fielder allowed all three runs to score.
Leading 19-11 in the ninth, the Wildcats ran into trouble as the Eagles loaded the bases with one out. The Eagles scored three runs and had the bases loaded with the tying run on deck. Dom Marotta picked up strikeout and a ground ball to end the game and earn the save.
Garrett Quinn went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBI while Cam Trego went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Chase Fleming batted 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Tyler Pirrung and Brandon Grygo each had two doubles and three hits in the opener.
GAME 2:
A nine-run third inning turned the game around for the Wildcats in the nightcap, as they again hung on down the stretch for the sweep.
Shawn Edevane capped a four-run top of the first inning with a two-run homer, But the Eagles answered right back with a seven-run bottom of the first, with all seven runs coming with two outs.
After the leadoff man was out in the top of the third, the Wildcats put the next nine batters on base, including a two-run double from Nick Classie, an RBI triple from Brandon Grygo, and an RBI double from Cam Trego. The Wildcats scored nine runs on six hits and an error in the inning to take a 13-7 lead.
The Eagles cut into the deficit with a three-run double in the third and a two-run sixth inning, but then Dom Marotta went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to record his second save of the day.
Tyler Pirrung went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI while Nick Classie went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Shawn Edevane went 1-for-2 with a homer, three RBI and three runs scored.

The Wildcats have a conference bye this weekend and will be back in action next Tuesday afternoon when they compete for the Bill Giles Invitational Championship. They will play West Chester at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
