Golf Sits in Eighth After Two Rounds at the Eagles Invitational

WATERTOWN, Conn. - - For the second week in a row, the Wilmington University golf team is competing at the Watertown Golf Club, this time in the Eagles Invitational hosted by Post and sit in eighth following the first two rounds on Monday.

The Wildcats posted rounds of 302 and 300 for a 602 (+34). The host Eagles are in the lead, shooting rounds of 283 and 292 for a 575 (+7) with one round to play on Tuesday.

Tyler Cleaves and Matthew Pulgini are tied for 15th overall after two rounds with identical scores of 147 (+5). They are both tied for 10th overall on par four scoring, finishing the two rounds at three-over par for a 4.14 average on those holes. Pulgini is tied for fourth in the tournament with 25 pars while Cleaves is tied for seventh overall with 24 pars.

Cleaves had the best round of the day by any Wildcat with a 70 in the second round, shooting a 77-70 for his 147. He had three birdies in the second round, getting back to even par on the par four sixth hole. He then birdied the par four 10th to get to one-under and finished out his round with five pars, finishing on the 15th hole.

Pulgini had the best first round for the Wildcats, shooting rounds of 72-75 for his 147. He birdied the par five first to get to one-under in the first round, and then had a birdie on the par four 10th to again get to one-under par for the round. He bogeyed holes 13 anf 14 to close out his round at one-over par.

Pablo Quintero is tied for 33rd overall after rounds of 74-77 for a 151 (+9). Quintero is two-under par on par five scoring and is only one of seven student-athletes who had an eagle on Monday. His eagle came on the par five 16th in the first round, getting onto the green in two shots before hitting his putt. That brought him back to even par for the round. He also birdied the par five first and the par four sixth to get to one-under par before finishing at 74 (+3).

Blake Ramirez is in a tie for 48th overall with rounds of 79-78 for a 157 (+15). He is tied for 16th overall on par three scoring, finishing at two-over par (3.25 score average). He is also tied for 12th in the tournament with 23 pars.

Nathan Potts rounded out the Wildcats team scoring, sitting in a tie for 75th overall with rounds of 83-81 for a 164 (+22). Potts is tied for 19th in the tournament with five birdies in the two rounds. He had two birdies in the first round and got to two-under par to start the second round with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17. He had three birdies in the second round.

Playing as an individual, Jan Lekes is in a tie for 63rd overall with rounds of 79-82 for a 161 (+19).

Bentley's Jared Walter and Post's Bill Koch lead the field of 81 golfers at three-under par, shooting 139 (-3).

The Wildcats will tee off at 9:15 on Tuesday to close out the Eagles Invitational.
