Golf Moves Up to 15th with 299 in Final Round at Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational

MONROE, N.C. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot the sixth best round of the tournament on Tuesday, posting a 299 to complete the Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational in 15th place with a 916 (+52) at the Rolling Hills Country Club.

The Wildcats posted rounds of 307-310-299 for their 916, moving up two spots to 15th overall. They finished ahead of the two other East Region programs on the leaderboard, beating Post by eight strokes and Southern New Hampshire by 28 strokes.

Tyler Cleaves led the Wildcats on Tuesday with a 69 (-3) but it was Sacha Brown that had the best three round score for the Wildcats. He finished in a tie for 29th overall with a three-round score of 72-74-77 for a 223 (+7).

Brown birdied two of his first three holes on Tuesday and hit another birdie on the par five ninth hole to get back to one-over par. But a double bogey on the second to last hole set Brown back, finishing with a 77 (+5) for the round. He finished in a tie for 20th overall on par five scoring, finishing the three rounds at two-under par.

Tyler Cleaves' 69 (-3) on Tuesday moved him up 35 spots on the leaderboard as he finished in a tie for 50th overall. He shot rounds of 83-77-69 for a 229 (+13) for the tournament. His Tuesday started with three pars but then he sank three birdies in a five-hole stretch to get to three-under par. He then put in back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes, getting as low as four-under par. Another birdie on the par four 14th got him back to four-under par, but a bogey on his final hole of the day, the par four 15th, saw his day end at 69 (-3). He had seven birdies in the third round.

Pablo Quintero moved up 27 spots on the leaderboard with a 72 (E) on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 50th overall. He had rounds of 80-77-72 for a 229 (+13), improving every round. After starting with a double bogey on his second hole of the day, Quintero fired off four birdies and seven pars to get as low as two-under par before finish with his 72 (E).

Blake Ramirez posted an 81 (+9) on Tuesday, finishing in 91st place with a three-round score of 78-82-81 for a 241 (+25). He started Tuesday off with a birdie on his first hole, the par five 17th.

Ryan Heenan finished in 92nd place with a three-round score of 242 (+26), posting rounds of 77-83-82.

Grand Valley State ran away with the team victory, shooting a three-round score of 844 (-20). Tusculum finished second with an 859 (-5) while the host school Wingate was third with an 865 (+1).

Grand Valley's Drew Coble earned medalist honors with a 205 (-11). Tusculum's Morgan Cain finished second with a 207 (-9).

The Wildcats return to action on April 4 when they travel to Pomona, New York, to compete in the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Shootout at the Phillip J Rotella Memorial Golf Course.
