The College of Saint Rose used a 19-10 run over the final 6:44 of regulation to come away with a 78-70 victory in both teams 2014-15 season opener on Saturday night.

The Wildcats (0-1) took a lead as late as 6:44 remaining in regulation as Valentino Thompson converted a layup to make it 60-59 in favor of the Wildcats. But Saint Rose (1-0) used an 11-0 run to take back the momentum and gain control of both teams' season opener for the 2014-15 season opener.

Trailing 23-13 with 11:37 to play in the first half, the Wildcats went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 23-23 with 9:56 before a three-pointer by sophomore Drew Johnson put the Wildcats in front 28-25 with 8:01 to play in the opening half.

Thompson put the Wildcats in front 32-29 with a layup with 5:14 to play in the first half before the Golden Knights battled back to tie the match as late at 2:30 to play in the first half.

The Golden Knights used a 6-4 run over the final 1:17 to grab a 42-40 halftime lead after the first 40 minutes of play in the season opener.

Thompson tied the match at 42-42 with a layup right out of the halftime break before a Thompson free throw tied the match at 45-45 with 18:08 to play, finishing off a three-point play.

Trailing by five points, the Wildcats used layups from Rashaun Rasheed, Sam Sanders, and Thompson to take a brief 60-59 lead before the home team went on their run to close out the season opener.

The Golden Knight expanded their lead to as many as 12 points following a pair of free throws before finishing off the season opener with a 78-70 victory on Saturday night.

Thompson and sophomore Johnson tied the Wildcats with a team high 17 points while Rasheed added 11 points for the Wildcats in the season opener. Shai Henry led the Wildcats with nine rebounds while Rasheed added eight rebounds in the start.

Saint Rose was led by Jalaun Taylor's 20 points while Jack Jones' added 16 points and Max Weaver chipped in with 11 points. Chris Dorgler added 10 points as four out of five starters finished with double-digit points scored.

Saint Rose shot 47.3 percent from the floor for the game while the Wildcats shot only 38.5 percent from the floor for the game.

The Wildcats finish out their 2014-15 season opening tournament with a match against Le Moyne on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. The contest will be played on the campus of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y.
