10 Wildcats Named 2021-22 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

NEWARK, Del. - - Ten Wilmington University softball student-athletes earned a spot on the 2021-22 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete list after finishing the year with a 3.5 grade point average or higher.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 2,227 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2021-22. NCAA Division I followed with 2,155 and NCAA Division II with 1,646. Junior Colleges and NAIA came in with 756 and 736 student-athletes respectively, with USCAA member Penn State Brandywine earning seven scholar-athlete nods.

The Wildcats, who finished 38-20 overall and advance to their first NCAA Division II Super Regional this past spring, placed five on the academic list. The Wildcats were led by seniors Kiersten Comer and Lauren Lopez while sophomores Haley Downin, Taylor Gillis, Arianna Millan, Sara Miller, Lexi Moore, and Savannah Stone, and freshmen Kylee Gunkel and Emma Zimmerman also performed well enough in the classroom to make the list.

For the second consecutive year, Macalester College (NCAA DIII) posted the top GPA as the NFCA revealed its Easton Top 10 GPAs for its collegiate divisions. Additionally, 7,527 collegiate student-athletes captured Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2021-22 academic year.
