Florida Tech Sweeps Shorthanded #11 Softball, 5-0 and 14-2

MELBOURNE, Fla. - - Florida Tech swept a nonconference doubleheader from a shorthanded No. 11 Wilmington University softball team on Tuesday night, 5-0 and 14-2, at Nancy Bottge Field.

GAME 1:

The combination of Panther pitchers Alex Hendrian and Kelsey Hahn shutout and shutdown the Wilmington offense in the opener. They struck out five Wildcats without yielding a hit or a walk. The only baserunner they allowed was a hit-by-pitch with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the first, getting two from a two-run homer. They also used a two-run homer in the third to make it 5-0.

GAME 2:

The Panthers (10-12) stayed on the attack to start game two, scoring two goals in the first, seven more in the second, and five more in the third to jump all over the Wildcats (6-6).

Gracie Mabry doubled in the top of the first but was left at second base. Maddie Vollmar started the top of the fifth with a single, followed by an Emma Zimmerman single into left center. Alexa Eisemann walked to load the bases with two outs and Haley Grygo came through with a two-run single, avoiding the shutout.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will look to recover and bounce back on Wednesday as they head to Daytona Beach to take on Embry-Riddle. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m.
