Bowling Places Second Overall at New Jersey Open, Falling in Championship Match

STRATFORD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University bowling team dropped the championship match to finish second overall at the New Jersey Open on Sunday afternoon, completing an outstanding weekend of play at the 30 Strikes Lanes hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The Wildcats headed into Sunday's bracket play as the top team after a dominating performance in Traditional matches on Saturday. The Wildcats then swept Monmouth, 4-0, to claim a spot in the championship match and completed a sweep of Holy Family, 4-0, in the tune-up match. The host Knights from Fairleigh Dickinson won the final two games of the Baker Bracket match to claim the championship, 4-2.

Sunday started with a clean sweep of Monmouth, winning games 185-166, 181-145, 180-175, and 203-160, to advance into the Championship match. During the hold-over match, the Wildcats swept Holy Family as well, winning games 149-123, 183-153, 197-186, and 177-133.

Fairleigh Dickinson swept Monmouth to reach the championship match against the Wildcats and Logan Brown produced three strikes in the 10th frame to start the Wildcats off on the right foot with a 170-163 victory in the first game. FDU had their best game of the day in even the score, 1-1, with a 238 game, and then took game three as well, 226-167. The Wildcats evened the match with a win in game four, 200-173, but then the Knights took the final two games to win the match, 202-166 and 185-179, 4-2.

On Saturday, the Wildcats produced three All-Tournament Team members, including the MVP in Eleni Feggulis. She was the only bowler to reach the 1,000-pin plateau on the day, finishing with a 1,077 for a 215.40 average. Logan Brown finished third overall with a 975 (195.00 average) while Sydney Jones was fourth overall with a 972 (194.40 average).

The Wildcats look to continue their strong play this weekend as they head to the Griffin Baker Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Limerick, Pennsylvania.
