SINKING SPRING, Pa. - - The Wilmington University bowling team went 4-1 on Sunday at the Golden Bear Invite, winning the bracket match to take third place overall in the two-day tournament at Berks Lane.
The Wildcats moved up from fourth place after Saturday's Traditional matches, going 4-1 in Baker style games and then defeating Belmont Abbey, 4-2, in the positional match to close out the tournament. They finished third out of 12 teams in the Golden Bear Invite.
On Saturday, the Wildcats went 3-2 in Traditional matches, defeating Holy Family, Wagner, and Dominican, but falling to Molloy and Mercyhurst.
Individually, the Wildcats were led by Logan Brown's 11th place finish, bowling a 931 in five matches for a 186.20 average. She bowled a day's high 209 against Wagner, adding a 204 in the loss to Molloy.
Miranda Dudas finished in 15th place overall, bowling a 901 five-match total for a 180.20 average. She had a day's high 193 against Wagner and added a 180 against Dominican.
Sydney Jones placed 19th overall with a five-match total of 895 for a 179 average. She collected a Wildcat single-game best of 215 against Mercyhurst, adding a 191 against Wagner.
Genna Class finished in 27th place with a five-match total of 872 for a 174.40 average. She bowled a 194 against Holy Family, adding a 173 against Molloy. Abigail Crumb placed 38th overall with a 766 total for a 153.20 average. She had a day's best 169 in the final match against Dominican.
Kutztown's Kamryn Brenneman earned medalist honors after bowling a 1,035 total for a 207.00 per game average.
On Sunday, the Wildcats defeated Adelphi, Alvernia, and CACC preseason favorites Felician in Baker matches before closing out the preliminary rounds with a loss to host Kutztown. The Wildcats would be matched up with Belmont Abbey in bracket play, playing for third place.
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, winning games 169-150 and 173-168. But Belmont Abbey answered with the third game before the Wildcats made it 3-1 with a 187-181 win in game four. The Wildcats couldn't close it out in game five but saved their best for last with a 191-164 win in game six to claim the victory, 4-2.
Mercyhurst defeated Kutztown, 4-1, to win the Golden Bear Invite on Sunday.
The Wildcats now prepare to square off against their conference counterparts in their next tournament, competing in the CACC Meet 1 on November 9 and 10. Caldwell will host the conference meet at Rockaway Lanes in Rockaway, New Jersey.
