TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Women’s Lacrosse Earns No. 3 Seed for CACC Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - - Wrapping up their 2023 regular season as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's No. 3 seed, the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team finished with a 13-5 overall record and an 8-2 mark in the CACC. The Wildcats defeated the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport to face off against Jefferson in their fourth consecutive semi-final appearance on Saturday, May 6 at 2:30 pm.

Scouting the No. 3 Wilmington University Wildcats:

The No. 3 Wildcats will face off against No. 2 Jefferson. A six-goal difference in the third quarter proved to be too much for the Wildcats in their matchup against Jefferson in the regular season on April 19. Against Jefferson Ella Royer led the offense with four goals while Ella Baynes scored three goals. Amelie Gamache had two goals two assists, and five draws while Maddie Day finished with two goals. Anastasia Giannoulis scored a goal and added an assist and Makenzie Stritzinger had an assist and four draws.

The Wildcats are led by freshman attack, CACC Women's Lacrosse First-Team All-Conference selection, Ella Royer's 90 points on the year, as she ranked sixth the CACC in points. Her 67 goals are fourth in the CACC. Amelie Gamache (Second-Team All-Conference) 46 assists ranks fourth in the CACC. Mackenzie Stritzinger (Second Team All-Conference) 113 draw controls ranks third in the CACC. Maddie Day's 54 goals puts her at tied-8th overall in the CACC. Ella Bayne's 49 goals have her tied for 11th.

The Wildcats' netminder, Katie Vindigni ranks third overall in the CACC in goals against average, posting a 12.01 GAA. Vindigni is ranked 5th overall with 144 saves. Vindigni ranks second in all of the CACC in save percentage at 46.5 percent. Ashley Richmond has appeared in 10 games between the pipes, posting a 1-0 record with a save percentage of 43.3 percent.

On the defensive side, the Wildcats are led by junior Marisa Swanson, who has 21 caused turnovers (tied-sixth in the CACC) and 39 groundballs. Taylor Culver adds 30 groundballs and 20 draw controls.

As a team, the Wildcats are second overall with 298 goals in CACC games and second overall with 485 shots on goal in CACC games. They are ranked second with 164 assists in CACC play. They rank second in the CACC with 9.11 assist per games and third nationally in all of Division II.
