NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Wilmington University athletics has four student-athletes who were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week for this past week.
Men's Soccer's Tom Garratt was named CACC Player of the Week, while women's soccer's Emily Navarette was named Rookie of the Week. Jenna Brown earned Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season for women's volleyball, as men's cross country's Mark Corrigan earned Runner of the Week.
Garratt helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back victories over Chestnut Hill and Nyack this past week. He posted one goal and two assists in Wilmington's 6-0 shutout against Chestnut Hill. On Saturday, September 22, he secured a hat trick, scoring three goals on four shots on goal in the Wildcats 8-1 victory over Nyack. The junior forward went 2-2 in penalty kicks with a .750 shot percentage. He finished with a .875 shot on goal percentage and 10 points. Garratt ranks third in the CACC with six goals and third in the conference with 16 points. He also is sixth in the conference with 20 shots and tied for third in the CACC with four assists.
Freshman Emily Navarette earned Rookie of the Week for the first time this season, as she helped the women's soccer team go 2-1. In three games, she scored two goals on five shots for a .400 shot on goal percentage. She secured those two goals in the Wildcat's contest against Chestnut Hill, where she had a .667 shot on goal percentage in WilmU's 4-0 victory. She also finished with four points.
Volleyball's Jenna Brown has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, as she helped the Wildcats go 2-0 against USciences and Bloomfield this past week. The redshirt senior posted 35 digs, with five digs per set in seven sets played. In Wilmington's match against USciences, she had 24 digs and five assists. Brown recorded 11 digs and one service ace in the Wildcat's 3-0 win over Bloomfield. She leads the CACC with 294 digs, and is third in the league with 4.59 digs per set.
Mark Corrigan finished 50th out of 441 men running in the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Arkansas this past weekend to earn CACC Runner of the Week. Corrigan ran the 8K in 25:46.5 as he was just eight seconds off an 8K PR as a Wildcat. The senior helped lead his team as they finished 24th out of 49 teams with a team score of 682 points at the Festival.
Men's Soccer's, Elliot Johnson was named to the Weekly Honor Roll as he helped lead the Wildcats to a 2-0 CACC record last week, while Jessica Unsihuay earned it for the women's side, as she scored two goals on five shots. Volleyball's Mandy Behiels earned weekly honors, as she posted 29 kills and 26 digs in seven sets played. In men's and women's cross country, Brandon Cruz earned the weekly honor for the men as he set a collegiate PR, placing 141st, as Grace Slate finished 158th with a 5K time of 19:50.2 for the women.
