GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - - Adelphi scored a goal in each half and picked up a 2-0 victory over the Wilmington University women's soccer team on Sunday night at Motamed Field.

The Wildcats (1-1) outshot the Panthers (1-0), 9-8, in the first half, but only put three on frame and couldn't find the back of the net.

The first two Wildcat shots in the game were blocked, and then the Panthers put the pressure on. Wildcat goalkeeper Emily Camp made the first stop in an attempt in the 18th minute, and then the defense cleared the ball off the line. But the third attempt in the sequence found the back of the net, as Jacklyn Lada put the home team on the board, 1-0.

Jessica Unsihuay put a shot on frame in the 20th minute and the Wildcats had their best chance of the game in the 31st minute. Cassidy McErlain hit the post with a shot and Sammie Bennett's follow up attempt went wide to keep the Wildcats scoreless. Samantha Emmi and Krysta Memis also put shots on frame late in the half, but Panther goalkeeper Krista Aliscio made both stops.

Adelphi came out of the break with the bulk of chances, as the Panthers had four shots in the opening 15 minutes. But it was the fifth shot of the half that gave the home team the two-goal lead. Kerianne Scorce gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 75th minute.

Kasie Lambert began a pair of corners in the 81st minute for the Wildcats, but the ball was cleared away without any damage both times. The Wildcats wouldn't threaten again.

The Panthers outshot the Wildcats, 18-10, for the match, but the Wildcats had more corners, 4-2. Emily Camp made six saves in goal.

The Wildcats return home for their first game at the WU Athletics Complex of 2019 when they host Mercy next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
