Three Women’s Soccer Standouts Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

NEWARK, Del. - - The College Sports Communicators announced its 2024 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, and three Wilmington University student-athletes were recognized as some of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Representing the Wilmington University women's soccer team on the CSC Academic All-District Team were seniors Brianna Wons and Julia Yuhase and redshirt sophomore Maria Leguizamon. The three Wildcats are among 38 total student-athletes from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District nomination, the student-athlete must excel in both the field of play and the classroom. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, AND compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games, along with several other criteria.

Brianna Wons (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was a First Team All-CACC defender for the Wildcats, playing and starting in 16 games this fall. She scored six goals and added an assist, tying for third on the team with 13 points. She tied the Wildcat program record with four goals at Lincoln, adding a game-winner against Goldey-Beacom as well. She carried a perfect 4.00 grade point average while studying for her Information Systems & Technology degree.

Julia Yuhase (Huntingtown, Md.) was named a 2024 Team Captain and started all 19 games in midfield for the Wildcats this season. She dished out her lone assist of the year on September 21 against Post in a 2-0 victory. She is carrying a 3.67 grade point average while studying for her Health Sciences degree.

Maria Leguizamon ((Bogota, Colombia) started in 14 of the 17 games she played on the backline for the Wildcats. She was fifth on the team with six points, scoring two goals while adding two assists. She headed home the game-winner in the final minute of a 2-1 victory over Mercy and also scored against Post. She is carrying a 3.73 grade point average while studying for her Marketing degree.

The CSC Academic All-America Teams were also announced on December 11.
