Alex Siolos’ Second Career Triple-Double Not Enough As Wilmington Volleyball Goes 0-2 at ESU Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the East Stroudsburg University Invitational to start the 2014 season on Saturday.

Set scores against Fairmont State were 18-25, 12-25, and 21-25.

Set scores against Le Moyne were 25-22, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, and 13-15.

In the first match of the season, the Wildcats were held to a .097 hitting percentage as a team, but committing just 12 errors. Fairmont State collected 42 digs on the match while also earning 10 total team blocks in the three sets.

Junior Kaitlin DiGiacinto led the Wildcats with six kills for the match while sophomore outside Allison Briley collected five.

Junior Alex Siolos passed out 10 assists for the match while senior setter Kasey Couch added seven. Junior libero Shelby Henderson led all Wildcats with 10 digs while DiGiacinto chipped in with eight and Siolos added seven.

It seemed as though the Wildcats worked all the rust off in the first match of the day as they opened the second match against Le Moyne with a 25-22 set victory. After dropping the next two sets, the Wildcats produced a 25-22 set victory in the fourth frame to stay alive. The fifth set narrowly escaped the Wildcats, 15-13, as they fell to 0-2 on the 2014 season.

In the second match, the Wildcats hit .142 as a team, including a .205 mark in the fourth set to stay alive.

Siolos led the charge by earning her second triple-double of her career, just the third ever in program history. She collected her first triple-double last season, and is joined by Wilmington Hall of Famer Angie Estep as the only two student-athletes to accomplish such a feat.

This triple-double was more impressive offensively, however, as Siolos put down a career best 16 kills against Le Moyne while adding 21 assists and 10 digs. The junior committed just four errors on the afternoon to finish with a .343 attack percentage.

DiGiacinto added a double-double for the match, collecting 14 kills and matched a team high with 20 digs. Couch dished out a team high 23 assists in the five-set thriller while Henderson matched DiGiacinto with a team high 20 digs.

Freshman Erin Bistany collected two of the team's three solo blocks in the match, while also getting a hand on four block assists to finish with a team high four blocks.

The Wildcats out-blocked the Dolphins, 10 to 9.5, but Le Moyne was able to outhit (.153), and out-dig (78 to 74) the Wildcats.

Wilmington has two more cracks at earning its first victory of the season at the ESU Invitational, as the Wildcats square off against American International at 4 p.m. and host East Stroudsburg at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
