Wilmington Harriers Finish Fourth and Seventh at 2014 Codfish Bowl

BOSTON, Mass. - - Junior Tyler Muse was the high finisher for the Wilmington University cross country teams as the women finished seventh in the 5K run while the men finished fourth in the 8K run on Saturday in Franklin Park.

Muse led the Wildcats with an 11th place finish overall, earning eight points with a 27:00 minute run during the 8K. Running in his first event of the season, senior Richie Mitten finished 15th overall, giving the Wildcats 11 points by crossing the line in 27:16.

Freshman Andrew Milham was the third Wildcat to finish the 8K event, crossing the line in 25th overall, earning 20 points with a time of 27:47. Sophomore Ken Fontal earned 26 points with a 31st place finish with a time of 28:01. Senior Matt Mossman rounded out the Wilmington scoring with a 54th place finish and 40 points, crossing the line in 29:45.

Junior Quinn Marvel trailed Mossman by a second, finishing in 55th overall with a time of 29:46.

With 105 points, the Wildcats finished fourth out of 11 teams at the 45th running of the Codfish Bowl. Greater Boston TC won the event with 48 points while the College of Charleston finished second with 54 points. Merrimack, an NCAA Division II and East Region foe, finish just in front of the Wildcats in third place with 78 points.

The 33rd running of the women's 5K event started the cross country meet and the Wildcats were led by junior Megan Ferrick's 19th place finish. She finished the race in 20:16 for 19 points.

Senior SaraBeth Oppermann gave the Wildcats 32 points with a 35th place finish, crossing the line in 21:10. Senior Jeanette Halliburton finished 46th overall with 43 points, finishing the 5K in 21:34 as the team's third scorer.

Graduate student Tijen Ozcan was the fourth Wildcat to cross the line, earning 60 points with a 74th place finish in 22:55. Junior Morgan Ferrick rounded out the Wildcat scoring with a 79th place finish, giving the team 63 points with a time of 23:08.

Bailey Brooks was the final Wildcat to finish the 5K race, finishing in 101st place overall with a time of 24:06.

The Wildcats finished with 217 points and in seventh place overall. They were the third NCAA Division II team in the standings, finishing behind LIU Post and Merrimack.

The Wildcats travel to the Mid West for their next meet, as they will test the course that the 2014 NCAA Division II National Meet will be run on at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. The Wildcats will run in the Greater Louisville Classic on October 4.
