NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Just after their first official race of the season, the Wilmington University men's and women's cross country teams have earned two student athletes as Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Runners of the Week.
Sophomore Brandon Cruz was named men's cross country Runner of the Week, while on the women's side, freshman Annabel Cortez was named Rookie of the Week.
Brandon Cruz led the men in the 2019 Division II/III Cross Country Challenge finishing 30th out of 133 runners with a time of 27:12.2 in the 8K. Cruz helped the Wildcats to an eighth place finish out of 13 teams, collecting 208 points.
Annabel Cruz led the women in the 6K with a time of 25:33.1 to finish 55th out of 159 runners in her first collegiate race of her career. The women went on to collect 360 points to finish 13th overall against schools including, Malone, West Chester, Jefferson, and So. Conn. St.
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, September 28 when they head out to Sacramento, California for the Capital Cross Challenge. The men are scheduled to race at 9:50 a.m. with the women at 10:30 a.m. at the Arcade Creek Golf Course.
