
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - - Dan Wyshinski and Tiffany Banning paced the Wilmington University cross country teams as they took a preview of a postseason course at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on the Matt St. James Trails on Saturday.
Hosts Roberts Wesleyan will also host the NCAA DII East Regional Championships in November, so the Wildcats were able to get a feel for the course against the crowded field in meet history.
The men ran better than a pair of teams currently ranked in the USTFCCCA Regional Polls, finishing 10th out of 25 teams overall. The Wildcats' 313 points were better than No. 3 Daemen (13th – 364 points) and No. 8 Adelphi (11th – 326 pts). The Wildcats were the only team from the CACC to compete at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational.
Running his first race of the year, Dan Wyshinski led the Wildcats with a 36th place finish out of 334 runners, crossing the line in 26:00.5. Trent Taylor was second for Wilmington in 48th place, finishing in 26:21.3. Carter Sparwasser finished 90th overall with a time of 27:01.1 while Chris Nelson made his Wilmington debut with a 141st place finish with a time of 27:52.1. Joe Volk completed the team scoring for the Wildcats with an 180th place finish, 11 second off his 8K PR with a time of 28:38.4.
Braeden Peterson ran to a 224th place finish with a time of 29:18.1 while Hayward Boutte finished in 239th overall with a time of 20:43.9. Niko Licup placed 293rd overall with a time of 32:26.3 while Terence Lucas made his collegiate debut with a time of 34:22.7.
The women finished in 17th place overall, earning 452 points. Every Wildcat set a new 5K personal record during the race.
Tiffany Banning led the Wildcats with a 48th place finish, breaking the 20-minute mark for the first time in college with a 5K time of 19:39.8. Sammy Banning was the second Wildcat to cross in 110th place, finishing with a time of 20:55.4. Maddie Minnick finished 141st overall with a time of 21:32.1 while Amy Chomo placed 150th with a time of 21:43.4. Angie Chomo rounded out the team scoring for the Wildcats with a 175th place finish, crossing the line in 22:15.4.
Abby Chomo finished 186th overall with a PR time of 22:34.1 while Claudia Rodriguez finished 209th overall with a time of 23:15.5. Kendall Cramer made her collegiate debut with a 210th place finish with a time of 23:25.4.
Cornell (NCAA DI) won both the men's 8K and the women's 5K events while host Roberts Wesleyan finished third in the men and second in the women.
The Wildcats are on the course again next weekend as they head to the 50th Annual Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday, October 5.
