WILSON, N.C. - - Seniors Ryan Sandberg and Quintin Ivy led the Wilmington University baseball team to an 11-0 shutout of Fairmont State to start the Wilson Tobs DII Classic at Historic Fleming Stadium on Thursday night.

It didn't take long for the Wildcats (3-2) to get on the board, as they scored three runs in the top of the first. John Mead had a two-run double in the inning which proved to be more than enough for starting pitcher Ryan Sandberg.

Sandberg went seven strong innings, striking out 12 batters, including two batters in the second, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh frames. He only allowed three hits in his outing, walking one batter. He is now 2-0 on the year without allowing a run.

Quintin Ivy produced the fireworks at the Coastal Plain League stadium in which he played in last summer. He hit a solo homer to dead center in the third inning and then blasted a long two-run shot to left in the eighth inning to round out the scoring.

Justin Barcoski pitched a scoreless eighth inning while picking up two strikeouts and Devin McClendon made his collegiate debut and secured the shutout, the third of the season for the Wildcats, with a scoreless ninth inning.

Quintin Ivy went 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored while John Mead went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Shawn Haut and Adrian Jimenez had two RBI each in the win. Jack McDonald scored four runs, earning three walks.

The Wildcats will see the Falcons again on Friday, as they play two games. The day starts with Bloomsburg at 12 followed by a rematch with the Falcons at 4:00 p.m.
