NEW CASTLE, Del. - - Brandon Grygo and Cam Trego hit their first home runs as members of the Wilmington University baseball team, helping the Wildcats to a 10-8 nonconference victory against American International on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The seven-game homestand is off to a great start for the Wildcats (9-5), winning back-to-back games to begin their home slate.

D'Angelo Ponce remained hot as well, helping the Wildcats to an early lead. The Wildcats started a two-out rally with a hit-by-pitch and a fielding error before Ponce hit a two-run double over the third-base bag for another first inning hit.

The Wildcats added to their lead with more two-out runs in the second. Cam Trego hit his first homer as a Wildcat, launching a ball into the trees in right for the 4-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets cut into the deficit with a three-run fourth inning, hitting a two-out, two-run triple to center, and then added another RBI single to make it a 4-3 game.

The Wildcats scored a fifth run with two-outs in the game, as Grygo scurried home on a wild pitch to extend the lead back out to 5-3.

The two-out runs continued to pour in for the Wildcats, as they regained a comfortable lead in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on second and third and two outs, Brandon Grygo cleared the wall in right center for a three-run shot, hitting his first collegiate career home run. Cam Trego was hit by a pitch to extend the inning and then Erik Grady doubles to put runners in scoring position once again. AJ Tropiano dropped one in front of the right fielder for a two-run single and the Wildcats were staring at a 10-3 lead.

AIC had a hit in each the sixth and seventh innings but didn't get back into the game until a five-run eighth inning. They only had one hit in the inning but scored five runs aided by an error to start the frame and three straight walks with the bases loaded. A hit by pitch with the bases loaded made it 10-7 before a final sacrifice fly brought the Yellow Jackets back into the game, 10-8.

Dom Grady came on in the ninth and shut the Yellow Jackets down for his fourth save of the season.

Chase Fleming went the first three innings, only allowing one hit and striking out three. Derek Huff pitched a scoreless fifth inning to pick up the win while Matt Warrington and Alex Krick pitched scoreless frames as well. Alec Roselli got two outs to get other of the eighth inning.

Brandon Grygo and D'Angelo Ponce had two hits each for the Wildcats with Grygo leading with three RBI. Cam Trego, AJ Tropiano, and Ponce all had two RBI in the game as well.

The seven-game homestand continues Friday when the Wildcats welcome Indiana (Pa.) to Wilson Field for the beginning of a three-game set. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
