WHEELING, W.Va. - - The Wilmington University golf team wrapped up its 2023-24 regular season with a 25th place finish at the Atlantic/East Super Regional Preview on Tuesday afternoon at the Oglebay Resort hosted by West Liberty.
The Wildcats shot rounds of 327 and 337 for a 664 (+96), finishing in 25th out of 26 teams in the field. Charleston won the event by jumping Gannon in the second round, finishing with a two-round score of 598 (+30). Gannon finished second with a 600 (+32).
The Wildcats were led by Blake Ramirez who finished in 86th overall, shooting rounds of 77-88 for a 165 (+23). Tyler Cleaves shot rounds of 83-83 for a 166 (+24) to finish in 92nd overall while Pablo Quintero finished in 99th place with rounds of 84-83 for a 167 (+25).
Sacha Brown posted rounds of 85-84 for a 169 (+27) to finish in 109th place while Ryan Heenan rounded out the Wildcats on the course with rounds of 83-87 for a 170 (+28) to place 115th overall.
Glenville State's Benjamin Fernandez was the only student-athlete to shoot under par, winning the tournament by eight strokes. He posted rounds of 67-70 for a 137 (-5). Mercyhurst's Aidan Fong finished second with a score of 72-73 for a 145 (+3).
The Wildcats now await the NCAA Selection Show to see if they earn a spot into the 2024 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament. The NCAA Selection is scheduled for April 26.
