
WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak on Thursday, sweeping West Chester, 7-0, at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
Ranked No. 12 in the latest ITA Division II National Poll, the Wildcats (14-2) won all nine matches on Thursday, sweeping the doubles matches before winning all six singles matches.
The doubles matches got off to a fast start as Kushi Khandoji and Ines Olivieira won at No. 3 doubles, 6-1. Liza Sylka and Siana MacDonald earned the doubles point with a win at No. 1, 7-5. Molly Carlberg and Ming-Fun Chen made it a clean sweep in a tiebreak, winning at No. 2 doubles, 7-6 (7-3).
Gloria Barcaro started the singles matches with a 6-1 and 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles before Kushi Khandoji was her match on Senior Day, 6-0 and 6-4, at No. 5 singles. Liza Sylka gave the Wildcats the match victory with a win at No. 2 singles, 6-0 and 6-2.
Siana MacDonald followed quickly behind with a 6-2 and 6-2 win at No.1 singles and then Molly Carlberg made it 6-0 with a 6-4 and 6-0 win at No. 3. Ming-Fu Chen needed to work overtime but eventually made it a clean 7-0 sweep for the Wildcats at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), and 1-0 (10-6).
The Wildcats' spring season continues Sunday when they host St. Thomas Aquinas in a key East Region matchup at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The opening serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
